At Fatfield Academy, British Values are woven through all aspects of school life and are closely linked to our core values of being Kind and Proud.
Democracy
- Pupils have a voice through the School Council and pupil leadership opportunities.
- Children contribute their ideas and opinions in lessons and assemblies.
- Pupils are encouraged to make decisions and understand that everyone's voice matters.
The Rule of Law
- Clear school rules and expectations help children understand right from wrong.
- Positive behaviour is recognised and celebrated.
- Pupils learn about laws, responsibilities and the importance of keeping themselves and others safe.
Individual Liberty
- Children are encouraged to make choices, take responsibility and develop independence.
- Through the curriculum, clubs and enrichment opportunities, pupils are supported to pursue their interests and talents.
- Online safety, wellbeing and personal development help pupils make informed choices.
Mutual Respect
- Respect is at the heart of our school community.
- We celebrate achievements, recognise differences and encourage positive relationships.
- Our behaviour expectations promote kindness, empathy and consideration for others.
Tolerance of Those with Different Faiths and Beliefs
- Through RE, PSHE and the wider curriculum, pupils learn about different faiths, cultures and traditions.
- We celebrate diversity and help children understand and value the experiences of others.
- Visitors, themed events and curriculum opportunities broaden pupils' understanding of the wider world.
As a Platinum OPAL school, through Forest School, outdoor learning, residential visits, community links and a wide range of enrichment opportunities, we also provide experiences that help pupils become responsible, respectful and active citizens who are prepared for life in modern Britain.
Assembly information
During whole school assemblies, we will often talk about recent topical events and link them with British Values and Protected Characteristics. Here we will publish some resources to help parents continue the discussions at home.
